It is one of the oldest Orthodox dioceses on the territory of modern Belarus. The bishops of the diocese were appointed to the see by the Kyiv metropolitans. The Turov diocese occupied a very vast territory and occupied territories that now belong to the Minsk, Gomel, Grodno and Brest regions.
In 1990, the Gomel-Mozyr diocese was formed, headed by Bishop Aristarchus.
In 1992, by order of the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the Turov diocese was revived. On July 24, 1992, Archimandrite Peter (Karpusyuk) was ordained Bishop of Turov and Mozyr. The diocese consisted of 23 churches and one monastic women's community at the church in honor of the Intercession of the Mother of God in the city of Khoiniki. Six dean districts were created: Mozyr, Petrikovsky, Zhitkovichi, Lelchitsky, Narovlyansky and Khoiniki.
In 2003, the diocese had 58 registered parishes.
On December 24, 2004, by the determination of the Holy Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archimandrite Stefan (Neshcheret) was appointed Bishop of Turov and Mozyr.
On January 30, 2005, Archimandrite Stefan was consecrated as Bishop of Turov and Mozyr. In 2005, there were 52 clergy serving in the diocese (47 priests, 5 deacons) and there were 58 parishes.
On November 21, 2008, on the day of the celebration of the patronal feast of the St. Michael's Cathedral in the city of Mozyr, the Turov diocesan administration opened the Church Historical and Archaeological Cabinet, which collected the richest material of the historical and cultural heritage of Belarusian Polesie: about a thousand storage units, including the first edition of the Ostrog Bible (1581), icons of the Belarusian school of icon painting.
On November 5, 2009, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' blessed the construction of the cathedral in Turov in honor of Saints Kirill and Lavrenty of Turov.
Since 2012, the Administrator of the Turov diocese, its ruling bishop, has been His Eminence Leonid, Bishop of Turov and Mozyr.
The governing body of the diocese, according to the Charter of the Russian Orthodox Church, is the diocesan council. The chairman of the diocesan council is Bishop Leonid of Turov and Mozyr.

The executive and administrative body of the diocese, under the direct supervision of the diocesan bishop, is the diocesan administration, which has its own office, accounting, archive and other auxiliary departments that provide various types of diocesan activities.
The diocese is divided into dean districts headed by deans appointed by the diocesan bishop. Today in the Turov diocese there are 7 deanery districts (Mozyr city deanery, Mozyr rural deanery, Turov deanery, Lelchitsy deanery, Kalinkovichi deanery, Khoiniki deanery, Petrikov deanery).
The Turov diocese unites 77 parishes (with legal registration) and 2 monasteries (1 male and 1 female). Today, 76 clergy serve in the Turov diocese, of which 72 are priests and 4 are deacons.
